What is a Human
How long will you run away?
‘What is a Human’ asks a simple question. But it is a question that can tear some people apart. The average person is certain that they are a valuable human being simply by virtue of their existence. But some people have learnt that their worth depends solely on the benefit they bring to others.
One’s own worth is a simple cost-benefit analysis. How much do I cost, how much do I bring in? And so these people believe they must prove their worth anew every day. They must function; they cannot afford to show any weakness. Their very existence depends only on the benefit they provide to others.
To say to such a person, “You are simply so valuable!” is kind, but pointless. Their sense of self was destroyed long ago, and whether it can be repaired… I wish I had an answer to that!
I think that the blend of romantic synth-pop and melancholic new wave conveys this eternal pain well, and perhaps the listener can empathise with the pressure and the daily challenge that burns within these people. A challenge that will break you!
