The Scar behind the Song
‘Danger Zone’ isn’t just another song about an unsafe home; with this song, I wanted to portray something completely mad. When you grow up in an unsafe home, it feels absolutely normal to you. You don’t question your own reality.
On the contrary, you question the world of the ‘others’. Do you trust your parents? Are you mad? Do you tell your parents all your secrets? You’re naive!
Your own reality determines what you consider ‘normal’. Even if everyone else’s situation is different, your own reality can’t be wrong.
This is often something others cannot understand. They ask, ‘Why didn’t you say anything?’ Why should you say anything about a normal situation? It isn’t your own reality that’s crazy; it’s the others who are crazy. To this day, I’m overcome by an uneasy feeling whenever I see someone who has a trusting relationship with their parents. Today I know that this is nonsense. Yet I still can’t shake off that feeling. Once learnt, never forgotten.
Consequently, the sound of ‘Danger Zone’ had to come across as a melodious pop song. Everything feels normal and familiar. The madhouse is the ‘safe’ home. The listener should be able to truly grasp the contradictions through the song. Those who know this state of mind, on the other hand, will probably say, ‘Yes, that’s exactly how it is!’.
The ‘Danger Zone’ becomes the norm. The threat is part of everyday life. Distrust is essential for survival. The madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Walking on shattered glass.
Every corner of your lips,
every glance
a sign of danger.
Not something you want to learn,
something you have to learn.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Others trust their own strangers.
Are they insane,
reckless,
or blind?
What is the truth
in this madhouse?
A dance between the mirrors of deception.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Lyrics
The walls of pain cry out.
No one hears the child.
The innocent game started
only to end again.
Demons don't live within dreams.
Knowledge of a broken heart.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Deep cracks
in the windows of trust.
Suppressed perception.
If I am wrong,
the others are right.
Warning reason.
Danger lives next door.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Normality in the madhouse.
Dancing on the edge of disaster.
No one knows the rules of the game.
Play or die.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
Living in the danger zone.
Living on the edge of insanity.
When you know nothing else,
the madhouse becomes ordinary.
